Saharawi government calls UN to accelerate Settlement Plan implementation and respect ceasefire agreement

Bir Lahlu (Liberated Territories) September 06, 2016 (SPS)  -The government of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) yesterday asked the United Nations Security Council "to implement the Settlement Plan agreed over twenty five years ago, to impose justice and the principles of international law,thus, impose necessary pressure measures for the Moroccan occupation regime to respect its international commitments. "


In a statement released on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the signing of the ceasefire, the Saharawi government also demanded that " necessary measures in consistence with the requirements of the agreement of the ceasefire signed in 1991 between the parties conflict, the POLISARIO Front and the Kingdom of Morocco shall be applied, condemning the Moroccan flagrant violation of the terms of the agreement in the area of El Guergarat, south of the Western Sahara ".

"The Saharawi people and its sole and legitimate representative, POLISARIO, cannot remain silent before continuing escalation policies and Moroccan provocation," the statement added


In this regard, SADR government stressed "the need for the United Nations and the international community to assume responsibility for completing the process of unfinished decolonization in Africa's last colony, stressing that the illegal Moroccan occupation parts of the Saharawi Republic hinders the establishment of lasting peace and stimulates the Moroccan policy of flooding the region with their drugs, funding organizations organized crime and sowing the seeds of discord, terrorism and destruction.
