UN Security Council holds urgent meeting following Morocco's decision to stop financial contribution to Minurso

WASHINGTON-The United Nations Security Council will hold Thursday an urgent meeting following Morocco's decision to stop its financial contribution to the United Nations Mission for Referendum in Western Sahara (Minurso),  a source close to the issue told APS Thursday.  

The Security Council will meet at the request of the United Nations Secretary General Ban ki-moon to assess impact of this decision on Minurso.

Italians House and Senate express solidarity with Saharawi people struggle‏

Washington, March 18, 2016 (SPS) - "The Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission will hold on March 23, 2016 a hearing on Western Sahara which will address the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (Minurso) and the situation of human rights in the Occupied Territories of Western Sahara ", the Commission announced Wednesday.

Algiers , March 18, 2016 (SPS) -The United Nations Secretary General's Ban ki-moon's visit to the Sahrawi occupied territories and the Sahrawi refugee camps, that revealed "the direct and open" between Morocco and the international community, and Morocco's attempts" to shirk away its commitments part of the UN-AU resolution plan of 1991, the Sahrawi Foreign Ministry Mohamed Salem Ould Salek affirmed Wednesday.

Sahrawi people for relaunch of negotiations before end of Ban Ki-moon’s term as UN secretary general

Shahid El Hafed (Refugee Camps), 6 March 2016 (SPS) - The Sahrawi coordinator at the United Nations Mission for Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) Mohammed Kheddad said Friday, in Shahid El Hafed, that the Sahrawi people hope that the negotiations for the settlement of the conflict in Western Sahara will be relaunched before the end of Ban Ki-moon’s term as UN secretary general.
