Polisario Front Congress to address message to France to support peace, stability in region

Tifariti (Liberated Territories), 22 December 2019 (SPS) - Representative of the Polisario Front to France Oubbi Boucheraya Elbachir said Friday that the 15th congress will address, at the end of its works, a clear message to France “main hindrance to the peace process,” to review its position vis-à-vis the conflict in Western Sahara and think about peace, security and stability in the region which couldn’t be achieved without guaranteeing the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination.

In a statement to APS on the sidelines of the 15th Congress of Polisario Front, organized from 19 to 23 December in Tifariti, the Polisario’s representative said that the Congress will address, at the end of its works, a message to French President Emmanuel Macron, calling him to “review the passive French position which hinders the peace process in Western Sahara and to think seriously about peace, security and stability in the region.”

In this regard, Boucheraya affirmed that “the peace and security in the region couldn’t be achieved without ensuring the fair and inalienable right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination through the organization of an independent and fair referendum.”

Placed under the slogan “Struggle, resistance and sacrifice to complete Sahrawi State’s sovereignty,” the Congress of the Polisario Front "Shaheed El-Boukhari Ahmed" is meant to be important national event, organized every four years, as well as an opportunity which allows meeting all the activists of the Polisario Front in order to assess the situation of Western Sahara and outline a road map likely to organize the national actions and struggle,” he underlined, adding that “the Congress works will culminate in the election of a new leadership for the forthcoming phase.” (SPS)
