Western Sahara: Use of US aid subject to Department of State’ consent

Washington, February 25, 2019 (SPS) - The American Congress has once again said that the use of the American aid to Morocco in the occupied Sahrawi territories is subject to the consent of the Department of State.

The Congress which allocated the funds destined to Morocco to help Western Sahara, under the federal budget 2019, underlined that the use of this aid is subject to the approval of the Department of State.

8th Congress of Sahrawi Women: Election of Minatou Larabas Sweidat as Secretary General

Awsard (Refugee Camps), February 25, 2019 (SPS) – The 8th Congress of the National Union of Sahrawi Women has elected Minatou Larabas Sweidat as the Secretary General for a new four-year term.

Minatou Larabas Sweidat won 184 versus 121 for her rival Nana Labbat Rasheed, while the Electoral Committee cast 17 votes out of the total votes expressed.

Pakistan’s Zia Ur Rehman named new commander of Minurso

New York, February 23, 2019 (SPS) – UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced in a statement the appointment of Major-General Zia Ur Rehman of Pakistan as the new Force Commander of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in the Sahara Western (Minurso).

The new commander of the Minurso, 50, succeeds Major General Xiaojun Wang, of China, whose term ended on February 17.

Moroccan occupation forces intervene against Saharawi demonstrators in the occupied capital Aaiun

Occupied Aaiun, Feb 21, 2019 (SPS) - Moroccan occupation forces on Wednesday (February 20th, 2019) intervened violently against Sahrawi demonstrators in the occupied capital of Aaiun, leaving many casualties.

Immediately after the demonstration, the Moroccan occupation forces surrounded the demonstrators and prevented the other citizens from joining them before violently intervening to target the national flags held by the demonstrators.
